About us
Ballarat Writers is a grass-roots organisation promoting local writing and writers in the Western Victorian region. We run regular readings and special events such as Pure Poetry, Trivia Nights and the Southern Cross Literary Competition as well as occasional events run in partnership with other local organisations.
Every second Wednesday of the month from 7.30pm at Portico in Dana Street we feature a guest reader, followed by an open mic for anyone who’d like to share their work. 5 minute limit. Drinks are at bar prices. Everyone is welcome. We charge $5 entry, which goes toward paying the guest reader. Details about the guest reader are on the website a week or two ahead of the event.
